Day 3: BREMEN - HAMBURG - BREMEN

Saturday, April 3, 2010

Today we got up a little more early. After breakfast at the Best Western Schaper-Siedenburg, where as we said yesterday that it was the second day we spent in Bremen, the breakfasts are very complete and of quality, we go directly to the station, to catch our train from Bremen to Hamburg. We are already a few minutes away from starting to explore a new city and get to know what to see in Hamburg from Bremen.
It takes 1 hour and 14 minutes and the first thing we do is go to the Hamburg Tourist Office, to look for a map of the city where they give us one with the most important points of the city marked.

Once with the plane in our possession and already "equipped" we get started by starting the tour of all placeswhat to see in Hamburg from Bremen.
A good option to learn more about the history of the city is to book this guided tour of the Red Light District and the port with a guide in Spanish or this free tour in Spanish.
We go down the Mönckeberg street that takes us directly to the Hamburg Town Hall square.
During the walk along the street we see the mix of architecture, which we will see throughout the city.
Before arriving at the Town Hall square, one of the essential places to visit in Hamburg, we pass by the Church of St. Jacobi and St. Petri where we do not enter but where we stop a few minutes to enjoy surroundings.

The weather begins to cloud and we verify that, certainly, here the rains are intermittent: open and close, open and close, those are the gestures that we have to make at various times throughout the morning.
After this we went to the port area, passing through the canal area, where the warehouses used to be.

Hamburg

This area is especially beautiful and the best to photograph, due to the contrast of colors and architecture.

Then we go directly to the port, where we see that the area is more lively than the rest of the city and stop for a drink on a terrace. There we took the opportunity to warm ourselves for a little while in the sun and continued our walk.

Hamburg

We wanted to go to the St. Michael's Church in Hamburg, so we look for a street to go up and our surprise is when we find ourselves in a street full of Spanish and Portuguese restaurants.
Being the time it is and with the stomach already warning us, we have no excuse for not looking for a good restaurant on Tripadvisor and we ended up in El Mesón Gallego.
We get tired of Spanish tapas, quite good by the way, and we end up having coffee with ice and a cut, something rare in Germany.
With a full stomach, we are on our way to the St. Michael's Church in Hamburg, which is impressive, as is the environment in which it is located.

St. Michael's Church in Hamburg

We enter the Church and as always we are disappointed by the great sign that we usually find in most churches and that at this moment we are even struck by the double meaning they give to the word "donation", when they force you to have it 2 euros per person.

St. Michael's Church in Hamburg

Apart from this and the repeated souvenir shop located in one of the exits of the church, we have to say that we liked it very much and it was worth the visit.
It is an immaculate white, something that catches our attention and despite being full of tourists, you can breathe tranquility.
After this visit, we will see several surrounding shops and go directly to the Houses of the Hamburg Krammer, which are right in front of theSt. Michael's Church in Hamburg.

Krammer houses in Hamburg

This area, although very small, is beautiful. We are a little while walking through its streets, seeing the shops and enjoying a very quiet and pleasant atmosphere.
After this, it gets in our head to go see the Chile House, since it is marked on the plane as an important point and we have read that it is worthwhile in some forums.
It took us a while to get there and again in an intermittent rain, in the end we found it. It is a huge building, which does not leave indifferent for its architecture but to which we can not add anything more than that.
After this brief visit to the House of Chile we headed to the area of Hamburg Jungfernstieg, where we are relaxed for a while, taking advantage that it has stopped raining.
One of the places we have left what to see in Hamburg from Bremen, we discovered it right now and it is the famous Hamburg Town Hall Square.
It is impressive, when we have been in the morning we have not got to see the area of the arches and we have been fortunate to reach that area in the afternoon.

Hamburg City Hall

There we enjoyed a coffee, seeing "San Marcos Square" reflected in it, as the guide says and that reminds us of our trip to Venice some time ago.
After this, we return to Hamburg station, to catch our train to Bremen from Hamburg.
The station is huge and everything is very well indicated, so there is no problem and it does not take much sense of direction, something that by the way, we are almost completely missing.
Something that has caught our attention is that in restaurants and on the streets we usually don't find directions in any language other than German.
We arrive in Bremen well into the afternoon and go directly to the hotel to rest for a while, before going out to dinner.
After 8 pm we left the Best Western Schaper-Siedenburg to go to dinner but before we approached Markplatz, to say goodbye.
Before we go to the room we ask that they call us in a taxi at 5 in the morning, since we have the flight at 6.30 in the morning and we do not want to miss the flight back home.
